OHSAA honors Whitmer and Sylvania Northview hockey coaches

Two local hockey coaches were honored before the state championship game at Nationwide Arena in Columbus.

Whitmer’s Mark Waddell was present with the Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity awared by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.  Waddell, who is in his ninth season leading the Panthers, was selected by the OHSAA’s 24 coaches associations.  Waddell, who played at North Olmsted, also was an assistant coach at Whitmer and St. Francis de Sales.  OHSAA offcials honored Waddell for his philosophy of making players work hard to improve their skils while instilling values for the post-high school lives.

Northview coach Mike Jones was named the coach of the year in Hockey in Ohio by the National Federation of State High School Associations.  Jones led the Wildcats to the 2012 state title and to a state runner-up finish.  The NFHS honors 24 coaches each year in the state.

Congratulations to the division winner for 2012-2013 season of the Northwest Hockey conference.
